Papaya Gut Smoothie
Papaya is the perfect all-round gut loving food as medicine. Its rich in papain, an enzyme that aids digestion by helping the body break down protein. Papaya seeds have anti-parasitic activity for treating intestinal parastites. And the added bonus of slippery elm, soothing on the gut lining and a fabulous prebiotic for beneficial bacterial.
INGREDIENTS
1 ½ cup papaya
1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
2/3 cup mixed frozen berries
1/2 cup coconut yoghurt or milk kefir
1 Tbsp freshly squeezed lime
1 Tbsp chia seeds
2 tsp fresh ginger, chopped
2 Tbsp papaya seeds (reserved from papaya)
1 Tbsp slippery elm powder
Ice cubes (optional)
METHOD
1 Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth.
